If you've ever been to the magical bouldering destination of Fontainebleau you will know about the coloured circuits that are painted on boulders to define a group of climbs, often in a certain grade range/difficulty. Many years ago these circuits were a training site for many French Alpine climbers training for bigger objectives in the mountains. Today, boulder circuits are still practised by climbers indoors and is often how modern climbing gyms (here in the UK at least) set boulders. The boulder circuit session is one of the most commonly used training sessions, even if many don't consider it training. In this episode we follow Josh and Jen around a circuit session while they give us the pros and cons.
