La città di Castelnuovo Berardenga si trova ai confini meridionali del Chianti Classico a meno di 20 km da Siena. Il territorio è compreso tra i fiumi Ombrone e Arbia. Il nome Berardenga deriva dal conte Berardo di stirpe franca, vissuto nella seconda meta del X secolo.
