The Museum of Fine Arts is an art museum in Boston, Massachusetts. It is the 20th-largest art museum in the world - measured by public gallery area. It contains 8,161 paintings and more than 450,000 works of art, making it one of the most comprehensive collections in the Americas. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts was founded way back in 1870 and was initially located on the top floor of the Boston Athenaeum. Most of its initial collection came from the Athenæum's Art Gallery.
