The Eiger is famous for its 5,900 ft wall, called Eigerwand, and is the largest north face in all the Alps. Since 1930s, the north face has been climbed many times. Today it is considered a formidable challenge, not only for its technical difficulties, exceeding those of some of the 8,000 m of the Himalayan and Karakorum peaks, but also for the increase in rock falls and the decrease in ice.
