Rock Climbing requires massive strength, power, and endurance. Our shoulders, forearms, and hands get all of their power from our neck. If the neck is compromised because it's extended (looking up) for long periods of time, all of these performance variables decrease. You climb less well. Wearing belay glasses is an easy hedge against neck and shoulder instability and injury. They take some getting used to though. Here's a quick tutorial at a local Boulder crag.
