Fara in cerkev Svetega Nikolaja na Bohinjski Bistrici je bila ustanovljena leta 1788. Preje je pripadala kot podružnica stari župniji Srednja vas. Ker je bila stara cerkev premajhna, začeli so že zgodaj misliti, da bi zgradili novo. Toda šele župniku Janezu Mesarju se je posrečilo, da izpelje to misel. Veliko let so nabirali za zgradbo prostovoljne prispevke, dalj časa napravljali kamen, opeko in les. Slednjič napoči veseli dan, ko se je slovesno blagoslovil temeljni kamen.
