In late August 2022 the Piz Palü was much more difficult than it had any right to be. Especially if you started very late in the morning and you went completely alone, armed only with your ice axes. Sure, it was beyond stupid. The amount of danger was unnecessary and it could be easily mitigated. But... Where would be the fun in that?
