Opis:
Bela pernica, Lagopus mutus, meri približno 34-37 cm dolžine z razponom kril 55-60 cm, teža je med 330 in 560 g. (Primerljiva s golobom)
Barva peresa se spreminja s sezonami, da se bolje zameče v okolje, pozimi je popolnoma bela z črnim kljunom, poleti samica prevzame rjavo-rdečo barvo, samec rjavo-sivo, pri obeh kljun postane rjav.
