Opis: Most Orchid species are tropical but here is one that is not only occuring in a temperate zone but flowers in late fall! Many people do not realize that Nodding Ladies'-tresses are true Orchids! There are several species of Nodding Ladies'-tresses orchids in North America. The white sprial flowers with almost crystaline edges are key to the identification of this plant. Its habitat varies but typical can be found in wet areas or wetlands. Its scientific name is Spiranthes sp. This one may be Spriranthes Ceruna. Indigenous peoples used this plant medicinally. This is a late fall or autumn native wildflower.
