We saw only one person in almost 30 miles of hiking and it's not hard to understand why. The wind rivers high route is mostly off trail with thousands of feet of climbing and this year it's covered in snow. I also learned a new word, suncups, and now it's a word that causes anger sweats. Suncups are caused by some dark, evil magic, where the snow melts in an uneven fashion leaving a 1 and a half foot deep 'cup' with a thin ridge of snow around the rim. This means constantly slipping off the rim of the cup into the center. On day 2 this fiendish anomaly was the wellspring of many curses.
