Mt Fuji is the highest mountain and symbol of Japan. It is an exceptionally symmetrical cone, which is snow-capped for about five months a year. In 1707 the last big eruption covered the sky of Edo (Tokyo) with ashes and people needed candlelight even during the daytime.
