The temperature ran the gamut from -1°C when we started on Maloja Pass and 18°C when we arrived in Soglio. With a distance of 19.5 km, 700 height meters up and 1,450 down, this tour is somewhat strenuous and takes 6 1/2 hours. The most beautiful part through beautiful mixed forests with an awesome views of the granite mountain tops on the opposite side lies between Casaccia and Soglio on the Via Panoramica of Val Bregaglia, so I would almost recommend to start in Casaccia instead of Maloja. 'Almost', since Belvedere castle and the glacier mills up in Maloja were totally worth it. Autumn was just starting, so waiting another 2 weeks until the larches are golden (instead of just starting to turn color) should make this hike even more unforgettable.
