(from blog: www.suisu-ni-oide.ch) On a cool day in May, when most of Switzerland experienced a late, heavy snow fall, we traveled South to the Canton of Ticino in search of hiking weather. By train and bus we reached Mergoscia, a cute little village set at the entrance to the Verzasca Valley, and started our hike. The budding spring leaves of the forest offered scant protection against the stormy winds, but the valley and its villages with picturesque stone houses made up for it. By the time we had lunch on the terrace of the Osteria in Corippo (I recommend a stop!), the wind had abated and it was almost warm. Our hike ended by the famous foot bridge of Lavertezzo. Its Instagram fame has grown to such an extent that you can expect crowds of people even in bad weather and during off-season. The green-blue waters of the Verzasca river are especially lovely here, so the bridge's popularity is no surprise, but after a lonely-ish hike through the forests it's admittedly a bit of a culture shock.
