Leta 1949 je hrabra ekipa geodetov preživela 20 zaporednih dni in noči z vzponi in spusti na Ben Nevis in okoliške vrhove, da bi z takratno opremo dosegli najboljše meritve. Zdaj vemo, da so bili le centimetre proč. To je dokaz, kako natančno so vrhovi in visoke točke Velike Britanije merjeni tako dolgo. Zdaj je to vzbudilo občutek ponosa in spoštovanja pri Angusu Hemmingsu in Marku Greavesu, ki sta letos pomagala ponovno izmeriti Ben Nevis z najnovejšo opremo za meritve.
