Die Burg Emmerberg dürfte um die Mitte des 12. Jahrhunderts errichtet worden sein.
Die Emmerberger starben 1455 aus und danach wechselten die Besitzer recht häufig. Die Zerstörung der Burg wurde 1760 durch Graf Heinrich von Heussenstein eingeleitet.
