Baschi è uno dei più vasti comuni della provincia di Terni. Probabilmente di origine etrusca, ma con vastissime testimonianze di epoca romana, trae il suo nome dal latino 'vasculum', che nella radice 'vas' esprime il significato di conca, bacino. La genesi di questo nome sembra essere confermata dalla particolare configurazione del terreno, che presenta numerosi avvallamenti e conche lungo il fiume Tevere. Dall'XI sec. Baschi conta vicende e storie rocambolesche che lo videro libero comune e poi sotto il dominio della potente signoria dei Baschi, ghibellina, prese parte alle numerose lotte contro le fazioni avverse dei guelfi. Nel 1860 con Orvieto e Todi votò l'annessione al nuovo Stato Italiano.
